ACME Senior Technician – Technical Lead (Machining)

Position Summary

Mecca Talent is seeking an experienced ACME Senior Technician – Technical Lead to join a growing precision manufacturing team. This senior-level position is responsible for the setup, optimization, troubleshooting, and technical leadership of ACME-style multi-spindle screw machines. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with cam-driven machining and will serve as the technical expert for machine performance, process improvement, and operator development.

This role is ideal for a highly skilled machinist who enjoys solving complex manufacturing challenges while mentoring others and driving operational excellence.

Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Leadership

  • Perform complete setups and changeovers on ACME multi-spindle machines, including tooling selection, cam timing, feeds, speeds, and process optimization.
  • Serve as the technical expert for assigned machines and product families, ensuring consistent, repeatable, and efficient production.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex machining, tooling, timing, and material-related issues.
  • Develop and maintain setup documentation, tooling layouts, timing charts, and standardized work instructions.
  • Mentor setup technicians and machine operators by providing hands-on technical training and guidance.
  • Collaborate with maintenance to improve machine reliability, uptime, and preventive maintenance programs.

Machine Setup & Production Support

  • Set up, operate, and monitor ACME multi-spindle machines as needed.
  • Perform advanced tooling adjustments and optimize machine performance.
  • Verify part quality throughout production runs.
  • Ensure machines remain properly supplied with material, coolant, and lubricants.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.

Quality & Process Control

  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T specifications.
  • Utilize precision measuring equipment to verify product quality.
  • Lead first-article inspections and support internal and customer quality audits.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for scrap, rework, and process variation.
  • Ensure manufacturing processes consistently meet customer quality requirements.

Process Improvement

  • Develop and improve machining processes for new and existing products.
  • Optimize cycle times, tooling life, and setup efficiency.
  • Identify production bottlenecks and implement process improvements.
  • Support estimating and quoting activities by reviewing prints, materials, tolerances, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Assist with process validation during new product introductions and engineering changes.
  • Create and maintain standardized setup and operating procedures.

Continuous Improvement

  • Lead or participate in Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), productivity, and machine utilization.
  • Reduce scrap and downtime using structured problem-solving methods.
  • Support 6S and visual workplace initiatives.

QualificationsRequired

  • Minimum 10 years of experience setting up and troubleshooting ACME or similar multi-spindle screw machines.
  • Extensive experience with cam-driven machining, timing adjustments, and multi-spindle process control.
  • Strong blueprint reading skills, including GD&T interpretation.
  • Advanced knowledge of cutting tools, machining parameters, materials, and machine capabilities.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments and inspection techniques.
  • Excellent mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work overtime or flexible schedules as production demands require.
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts, scissor lifts, and other material-handling equipment.

Preferred

  • Previous experience as a Technical Lead, Senior Setup Technician, or Process Engineer.
  • Experience supporting quoting, cost estimating, and cycle time development.
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems.
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma experience.
  • Experience supporting PPAPs, customer validations, or new product launches.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
  • Ability to bend, reach, stoop, and perform repetitive movements.
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machine noise, oil, coolant, and metal chips.
