CNC MACHINIST JOB SUMMARY
A CNC Machinist operates and maintains computer-controlled machines to produce precision parts, ensuring quality and efficiency in manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
Setup and Operation: Prepare and operate CNC machines, including lathes, mills, and grinders, to produce parts from various materials such as metal and plastic.
Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics to determine machining requirements and sequences of operations.
Programming: Input and adjust CNC programs based on blueprints and specifications, ensuring accurate machining processes.
Quality Control: Measure and inspect finished products using precision tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers) to ensure they meet required tolerances and specifications.
Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on machines, troubleshoot issues, and make necessary adjustments to maintain optimal performance.
Collaboration: Work closely with other machinists and production staff to optimize workflows and resolve any production issues that arise.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of production metrics and document any deviations from standard specifications.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Technical Skills: Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical documents. Familiarity with CAD/CAM software is often required.
Mathematical Aptitude: Strong understanding of mathematics, including geometry and trigonometry, to calculate dimensions and tolerances.
Experience: Previous experience or at least 5 years as a CNC machinist or in a similar role is typically required. Less experience may be considered when coupled with education. Completion of vocational training or an apprenticeship is advantageous.
Attention to Detail: Ability to focus on precision and quality, ensuring that all parts produced meet strict specifications.
Safety Awareness: Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
Work Environment
This role requires standing for long periods, lifting heavy materials, and working in noisy environments.
