Grinding Setup Technician

Pay: $25.00–$28.00 per hour (Based on Experience)

Position Summary

Mecca Talent is seeking an experienced Grinding Setup Technician to join a precision manufacturing team. This position is responsible for setting up, operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining centerless grinding equipment, including Infeed, Through Feed, and Studer grinding machines. The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical aptitude, experience in a job shop environment, and the ability to independently perform machine setups while maintaining quality and production standards.

Key ResponsibilitiesMachine Setup & Operation

  • Set up and operate centerless grinding equipment, including Infeed, Through Feed, and Studer machines.
  • Evaluate job requirements, tooling, and machine configurations prior to production.
  • Change grinding wheels, adjust machine settings, and regulate equipment to meet print specifications.
  • Program machines and establish production parameters for operators.
  • Load and unload materials using forklifts or tow motors when required.
  • Perform pre-operation safety inspections and verify machine readiness.

Quality Control

  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions.
  • Measure finished parts using micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring instruments.
  • Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections to ensure product quality.
  • Monitor production and make adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy and consistency.

Troubleshooting & Continuous Improvement

  • Diagnose and resolve routine machine and process issues.
  • Recommend improvements to increase efficiency, reduce downtime, and improve throughput.
  • Conduct machine capability studies and verify process performance.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the department.

Preventive Maintenance

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on grinding equipment.
  • Document maintenance activities and equipment performance.
  • Coordinate repairs or rebuilds when necessary to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain equipment in safe operating condition.

Documentation

  • Complete production paperwork accurately and on time.
  • Perform and document hourly equipment inspections.
  • Record production issues, corrective actions, and process improvements.

Training & Support

  • Assist in training machine operators on equipment operation and safe work practices.
  • Provide guidance on machine setup, troubleshooting, and quality standards.
  • Support team members in maintaining production efficiency and equipment reliability.

Housekeeping & Safety

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Clean machines and remove oil, chips, and debris as needed.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Promote a safe and efficient work environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of grinding setup experience, preferably in a job shop or precision manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with Infeed, Through Feed, and Centerless Grinding equipment required.
  • Experience with Studer grinding machines is preferred.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Proficient in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Knowledge of ISO quality standards; TS/IATF experience is a plus.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on quality and efficiency.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to:

  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Bend, stoop, kneel, squat, twist, and reach throughout the workday.
  • Use hands for gripping, grasping, pinching, and operating hand and foot controls.
  • Push, pull, and move materials as needed.
  • Operate forklifts or tow motors safely.
  • Lift lightweight materials as required and move heavier materials with mechanical assistance.
