Position Summary

The Sales Estimator plays a critical role in driving revenue growth by accurately estimating project costs, developing competitive proposals, and supporting the sales process from initial inquiry through award. This position requires strong analytical skills, technical understanding of manufacturing processes, and the ability to collaborate effectively with customers, suppliers, and internal production teams. The Sales Estimator ensures quotes are precise, profitable, and aligned with customer expectations while maintaining the highest level of service and professionalism.

Key ResponsibilitiesEstimating & Proposal Development

  • Review customer drawings, specifications, RFQs, and job requirements to prepare accurate cost estimates.
  • Calculate material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs based on manufacturing capabilities and production requirements.
  • Develop competitive proposals and quotations that align with company pricing strategies and margin targets.
  • Utilize estimating software, ERP systems, CAD models, and Bill of Materials (BOMs) to ensure precise cost breakdowns.
  • Analyze project risks, scope gaps, and potential cost impacts before releasing estimates.

Customer & Sales Support

  • Collaborate with Sales, Engineering, and Production teams to understand customer needs and ensure estimates are feasible.
  • Participate in customer calls, meetings, and project reviews to clarify technical requirements and present proposals.
  • Maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective customers by providing timely, accurate responses to RFQs.
  • Follow up on submitted quotes to gauge competitiveness and identify opportunities to improve win rates.

Internal Collaboration & Process Improvement

  • Work closely with Engineering and Operations to validate routings, cycle times, and manufacturing methods.
  • Support cost-reduction initiatives by identifying opportunities for improved material utilization or production efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate records of quotes, revisions, pricing, and customer communications within CRM or ERP systems.
  • Assist in forecasting workloads, tracking quote success rates, and reporting on estimating pipeline activities.

QualificationsRequired

  • 2–5+ years of experience as an Estimator, Sales Estimator, or related role in a manufacturing, industrial, or fabrication environment.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, fabrication, assembly, welding, molding, or similar operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Proficiency with estimating tools, ERP systems, Microsoft Office, and/or CAD software.
  • Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with customers and internal teams.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple RFQs with competing deadlines.

Preferred

  • Experience with cost modeling, value engineering, or project management.
  • Familiarity with ISO/quality standards and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Technical degree or certification (Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Technology, etc.).
